Long before fishing nets and ropes were made from polypropylene, the traditonal nesting material gathered by gannets was seaweed. In this image a Gannet is carrying some seaweed back to the nest. A gift to the waiting female, he will display and then lay his gift onto the floor of the nest for her to accept and arrange.
