Augmenting the Sustainable Marine Environment

Bringing Kenmare Bay's marine life to Life!

ecoTELLY is an 'augmented reality' public art piece created and developed by artist Vincent Hyland of Wild Derrynane. It consists of 3 stacked cubes with a total of 12 faces. Made of aluminium the faces depict Kenmare Bay's marine life and their habitats from jellyfish to seabirds to marine mammals, fish and other sealife. It allows you to explore short videos through your mobile device (currently android only).

Encounters with species are told as stories and are visualised through the use of video, enabling you to interact with each of the panels and find out more about the amazing coastal wildlife that swims, flies and dives under the waves of Kenmare Bay’s Special Area of Conservation.

ESCAPE ARTIST SUPREME

The wonderful Little Cuttlefish can be found throughout the length and breadth of Kenmare Bay.

Little Cuttlefish are one of the smallest cephalopods to be found throughout Kenmare Bay. They are masters of camouflage, changing their skin colour and tone by contracting or expanding their cells that contain pigment (chromatophores). They are attracted to dive lights at night and when threatened they shoot out ink or bury themselves. The question is, 'What amazing adaptation do they employ to completely hide themselves'?
